    Synthesis and Characterization of a Nickel Complex in a High Oxidation States

    Abstract In this work a nickel(II) complex of the tetradentate Schiff base ligand N,N-ethylenebis(isonitrosoacetyleacetoneimmine) (H2L), has been synthesized. Both the ligand (H2L) and the nickel(II) complex were characterized using IR spectroscopy. The UV-Vis spectrum of the nickel(II) complex was recorded. The nickel(II) complex was oxidized to the corresponding nickel(III) complex using either N-bromosuccinimide and lead dioxide as an oxidizing agent. The nickel(III) product has a green color and is relatively stable but decompose slowly at room temperature. The nickel(III) complex was characterized by UV-Vis spectrophotometry. The nickel(II) complex is likely to have a square planar structure, whereas the nickel(III) is likely to be octahedral. المستخلص تم تحضير معقد لأيون النيكل (II) باستخدام احدي قواعد شيف رباعية الارتباط كمتصلة. تمت دراسة خصائص كل من المتصلة ومعقد النيكل (II) بواسطة مطيافية الاشعة تحت الحمراء كذلك تمت دراسة وتحليل معقد النيكل (II) بواسطة مطيافية الاشعة المرئية وفوق البنفسجية. أكسد النيكل (II) الي النيكل (III) باستخدام ان-بروموسوكسينمايد و ثنائي اوكسيد الرصاص كعامل مؤكسد. حالة الاكسدة الثلاثية للنيكل ذات لون اخضر، مستقرة نسبيا ولكنها تتحلل ببطء في درجة حرارة الغرفة. تمت دراسة وتحليل معقد النيكل (III) بواسطة مطيافية الاشعة المرئية وفوق البنفسجية. وفقا لبيانات التحليل اقترحت بنية المربع المستوي لمعقد النيكل (II) بينما اقترحت بنية ثماني السطوح لمعقد النيكل (III).
