dc.description.abstractThis paper is aiming at examining the possibilities for reviving traditional Sudanese institutions that once played a vital role in maintaining a viable balance between forest resource use and environmental protection. Data are drawn from different sources including documentary sources such as reports, files,...etc, formal and informal interviews with officials, group leaders and local people, and observation and the participatory rapid appraisal (PRA). The paper concluded that the religious Sheikh as well as administrative Sheikh organizes grazing rights and solve disputes. The administrative Sheikh and Forest Guards are responsible for forest conservation and protectionen_US
