Nine fish families were recorded during this study, Mormyridae, Cyprinidae, Characidae, Bagridae, Cichlidae MochokidaeClariidae, Schilbeidae and Centropomidae. Nineteen species of fish, belonging to sixteen genera were of the species had r>0.90, 26.6% had r values between 0.70 - 0.80 while 20% had r values lower than 0.70.Item Recovery of Internal Parasitic Ova from Black Backed Jackal (Canis mosomdas) in Kuku Zoo, Khartoum state(جامعة النيلين, 2017) Ali Saad MohamedAbstract—A preliminary surveillance was conducted for investigation of internal parasites of captive black backed Jackal (Canis mesomelas) in Kuku Zoo. The methods used were direct smear and floatation tests of the faecal material of the jackal. Both methods revealed almost, similar results. Order of parasitic prevalence was: Toxocaris sp (38.67%) ; Coccidia sp (28.58%); Echinococcus sp (19.35%); and Taenia sp (6.45%); Guardia (3.22%); Toxoplasma sp (3.22%); Trichuis (3.22%); and Ascaris (3.22%). It is recommended that carnivores and herbivores in the zoo should receive similar investigation procedures routinely.Item Evaluation of the Drinking Water in Khartoum North Municipality(جامعة النيلين, 2017) El fadil, A. G.; Muzdalifa O. A.; Ahmed MahgoubHamedAbstract—The aim of this study was to assess the bacteriological, chemical and physical quality of the drinking water distributed at Khartoum North Municipality, in order to ascertain water quality for human consumption. Five samples ( in triplicates) of tap water were collected randomly from five different locations in the municipality, namely; Al-faihaa, Al-mogtarbin, Shambat, Al- Kadaru and Alwosta, water samples were analyzed using the standard procedures. The results of the bacteriological analysis revealed that all the five treated tap water samples (100%) were positive for different bacterial contaminations. Isolation of coliform group bacteria was confirmed, the isolates were then tentatively identified as Enterobacter sp., Citrobacter sp. E. coli, and Klebsiella sp. Klebsiella sp. was found only in Shambat water sample. As a result of chemical and physical analysis, EC, TDS, pH, Magnesium and Calcium hardness and the Total Hardness, in all samples, were within permissible limits of World Health Organization (WHO, 1995) and Sudanese Standards and Metrology Organization (SSMO, 2006), whereas, some parameters were out of the standards as The Total Alkalinity at Alwosta, also the Turbidity in Al-mogtarbin was a little higher than the standard limits. Calcium Hardness in Al-faihaa andAlwosta was higher than the standard limits and it was found that the Free Chlorine in all water samples was quite low than the recommended level, which ensure the prevention of the further contamination.Item Effect of Production system on quality and macro-element contentsof Sudanese camel Camellus dromedaries meat(جامعة النيلين, 2017) El-rasheed, 1 M.Y.; Adam, Y. S. IAbstract- This study was conducted to detect the effect of the environment on the quality and macro-element contents of Sudanese camel meat. Samples of camel meat were collected fromAlbutana, Kordfan, and Khartoum areas. The proximate analysis revealed that there were no significant difference in moisture, protein and ash %among camel meat,on the other hand fat content % was significantly different. The higher values wererecorded for samples collected form Khartoum due to indoor living of camels in Khartoum State.Higher valuesof ultimate pH were found in samples collected from Khartoum followed byAlbutanaand Kordofanrespectively. Water holding capacity and cooking loss% showed no significant difference especially Ca, and Na, which were higher in Albutana camel meat samples, On the other hand K content was higher in Khartoum camel meat samples. This might be attributed to nutritional aspects.Item Effect of different dietary levels of vitamin C on Performance and carcass characteristics of two broiler strains in arid hot conditions(جامعة النيلين, 2017) Mohamed Elamin Ahmed; Mazen Nasssir Ali Nassir; Omer Abdul Mageed SallamAbstract: This experiment was conducted to investigate the responses of two broiler strains Ross 308 and Cobb 500 to 4 levels of vitamin C (0,150, 200 and 250 mg per 1 kg feed). One hundred and twenty - one day old chicks of each strain were used in this study. The experiment was extended for 6 weeks, during which starter feeds were fed for the first 3 weeks and finisher feeds were given then after. The experiment was conducted in an open- sided house at Khanfar area, Abyan district (Yemen). Birds were randomly assigned to the treatments with 3 replicates and 10 birds each. Weekly live body weight, feed intake, body weight gain, feed conversion ratio (FCR) and production yield Kg/m2 were recorded. At 42 day of age, three birds from each pen were randomly selected and slaughtered for carcass characteristics. In addition body temperatures and some blood constituents were also studied. A split plot design was used in which 2 main plots (strains) were fed the 4 levels of vitamin C as sub plots. Data were analyzed by the general linear model (GLM) procedure. Duncan’s multiple range test was used to compare the treatment means. The results revealed that Cobb 500 was significantly (p≤ 0.05) superior versus Ross 308 in term of live body weight, feed intake, body weight gain, FCR and dressing out %. However, Ross 308 showed significantly (p≤ 0.05) higher relative weights of heart, liver and gizzard than Cobb 500. With the increasing levels of vitamin C, live body weight, FCR, livability% and production yield kg/m2 weresignificantly (p≤0.05) improved. Moreover, feed intake was numerically increased at 250 versus 0 mg vitamin C. Strain had no significant (p≥ 0.05) effect on body temperature. Nevertheless, supplementation with 200 mg vitamin C/kg feed significantly (p≤ 0.05) reduced body temperature compared to 0 and 250 levels. Supplementation with different levels of vitamin C had significantly (p ≤ 0.05) increased serum protein compared to non-supplemented one. Serum uric acid was significantly (p≤ 0.05) reduced at 200 and 250 mg vitamin C versus control.Item Effect of Feeding Different Levels Cajanus Cajan Seeds (pigeon pea) on Performance of Male Goat Kids(جامعة النيلين, 2017) Al Hafiz A. Hassan; Ibrahim M. Tibin; Salim GibrilThis research was conducted to study the effect of feeding different levels of Cajanuscajan seeds on feed intake, feed conversion ratio, live weight gain, live body measurement, carcass yield and characteristics of. Thirty five - 4 months male goat kids (13.79 Kg) were randomly assigned to five dietary treatments, each in 7 replicates. In a completely randomized design, ground nut cake was replace by pigeon pea in the diets at replacing levels of A (0), B (5), C (10), D (15) and E (20%).The results indicated that the final body measurements were not affected by the levels of Cajanuscajan seeds as replacement of ground-nut cake ( G.N.C ) but the Animals in group D, which were raised on the diet contained 15% Cajanuscajan seed significantly (P< 0.001) had longer neck length than those in group A, B, C and E. Final live weight, total live weight gain, weekly weight gain and daily weight gain increased significantly (P < 0.01) as the CajanusCajan seeds levels of the diet increased. Total live weight gain showed highly significant (P < 0.01) difference among treatments which was 3.54, 6.04, 6.38, 8.54 and 7.21 kg/head for group A, group B, group C, group D and group E, respectively. Total dry matter intake increased with the increase of Cajanuscajan seeds levels, group D had the highest dry matter intake and final live weight throughout the feeding period while group A had the lowest dry matter intake and final live weight. There were no significant (P>0.01) differences among the animal groups in feed conversion efficiency; but the animals raised on 15% Cajanuscajan seeds in the diet had the best feed conversion ratio (8.03 kg/DMI/kg gain), and the animal raised on 20% groundnut cake and 0% Cajanuscajan seeds in their diet had the lowest feed conversion ratio (20.47 kg/DMI/kg gain). It was concluded from this study that goats can perform well up to 15% incorporation rate of (CajanusCajan) as a substitute to ground-nut cake.Item المجلة السودانية للتقانة الزراعية وعلوم الاسماك(كلية التقانة الزراعية و علوم الاسماك, 2016-03) جامعة النيلين, كلية التقانة الزراعية و علوم الاسماك
