    Nurses’ Adherence To Standard Precaution Measure of Human Immune-deficiency Virus at Sharge Alneel Hospital - Khartoum State

    Abstract Background: Human immune-deficiency virus considered endemic—a disease outbreak which is present over a large area and is actively spreading. The infected person develops opportunistic infections or malignancies that become fatal. Aim: to study the nurses’ adherence to standard precaution measure of human immune- deficiency virus. Materials and methods: It was descriptive cross-sectional study hospital based conducted in Shargealneel hospital. A number of 100 nurses were recruited for the study. Data collected by self-structured close ended questionnaire and check list, analyzed by statistical package for social science (SPSS) in form of frequency and percentage in form of tables. For association it consider significant at p value < 0.05 Results: generally the nurses knowledge regarding human immune deficiency virus, 41.9% have very good,, 39.0% poor. 14,3% fair and only 4.7% have good knowledge. In terms of nurses practices 38.3%, have good practice, 28.7% fair and 33% poor. There was significant association between nurses’ knowledge , age and practice (P value 0.011, 0.00). Significant association between nurses’ qualification and knowledge and practices (P value = 0.002, 0.001) regarding human immune-virus deficiency. Also there was highly significant association between nurses year of Experiences and knowledge and practices (P value = 0.000, 0.000) regarding human immune-deficiency virus significant association between nurses receiving previous formal training or workshop about HIV infection and their knowledge (P value = 0.000) and insignificant with practice P value (0.404). Conclusion: Overall nurses’ knowledge not satisfactory and there is gap in knowledge regarding compliance of standard precautions . III
