Item Evaluation of the Determinants of Community Management of Acute Malnutrition program’s coverage in Red Sea state, 2017 Thesis submitted for partial fulfillment of Master of Public health(Al Neelain University, 2017) Tarig Abdelgader Mohammed MekkawiIntroduction and objective: There are many factors influencing health care seeking behaviour which could affect the programme coverage either positively or negatively. A mixture of the interaction between those factors and sociodemographic context will decide on the impact of the factors on program coverage. Study aimed to determine coverage pattern of community management of acute malnutrition in the six studied localities in Red Sea , evaluate correlation between the coverage of services and some of the key determinants which includes : program performance and quality and to generate barriers and boosters to service utilization. Methodology: The study was conducted in six localities in Red Sea state to analyze the three determinants of Community management of Acute Malnutrition program efficiency (implementation, coverage and quality). The study used a combination of qualitative and quantitative data to judge programme efficiency, this included review of existing secondary data from coverage surveys and routine health information system , interviews with care givers and testing coverage pattern using the Chi-Squire test for homogeneity. The study also suggested barriers and boosters to utilize available services. Primary data from key informant interviews and focused group discussions were analyzed using Microsoft excel software , similar analysis done to performance data , statistical correlation analysis done using STATA 10 application. Results: It has been clear from the study that CMAM programme despite its implementation in the tested areas within the health facilities was dis-integrated into health system, of patchy coverage and variable quality. Lack of awareness about availability of services and the disease, distance and quality of services were identified as the main three factors boosting or reducing service utilization. Recommendations: The study has recommended improving programme performance through integration and strengthening health system at locality level using the building blocks of health system. Improving programme coverage monitoring through routine health information system and addressing identified barriers to boost programme coverage.
