Item The Prevalence of Sudanese Visceral leishmaniasis in Blood Donors Using rK39 Immunochromatography Test &Buffy Coat Concentration Technique in Gadarif State(Neelain University, 2019) Abdel Basit Osman HaroonAbstract Hospital based cross sectional study was conducted at Gadarif teaching hospital, 100 healthy apparent blood donors were included in the study and their blood specimens were examined microscopically by buffy coat technique and serologically by rk39 Immunochromatography test. There was no positive case reported in this study. The prevalence of Leishmania donovani infection among blood donors attending Gadarif teaching hospital was without value. Therefore the chance for transmission of VL through blood transfusion is negligible. We believe that the National VL Elimination Program does not need set up routine screening for Leishmania donovani infection in blood transfusion departments located in VL endemic areas Gadarif state but further study must be conducted with large sample size and molecular diagnostic method (PCR).
