Aim: To study nurses' knowledge regarding bowel stoma care at the public hospitals in Khartoum state. Methods: A descriptive cross sectional hospital base study was conducted in three governmental hospitals; fifty nurses were chosen by using Probability Proportional to size (PPS) sampling technique. Data were collected using questionnaire. Data were analyzed using Statistical Packages for Social Sciences (Version 23) presented in tables and figures using descriptive percentages, means and stander deviation, chi sure test used for relation significance Results: shows that mean of total knowledge score were poor in majority of them. Conclusion: On light of the study results it can be concluded that there was a highly significant improvement in practice items between pre and post education program, and the study recommended that there should be an in-service training and periodic educational programs targeting nurses to improve nurse’s knowledge. Keywords: Educational program, Nurses, knowledge, stoma care.Item Nurse’s Perspectives in Utilization of Non- Pharmacological Pain Management among Post- Operative Patients at Khartoum Public Hospitals, 2021-2022(Faculty Of Nursing Science, 2022) Areeg Saif Eldein Abdel Rahman Mahjoub; Higazi Mohammed Ahmed Abdallah Awad; Omima Idris Mohamed IdrisBackground: Pain in surgical patients considered one of the most serious complaints in the postoperative period. The nurses should be involved actively in the treatment of pain by using the pharmacological and non- pharmacological methods specially designed for the patient. Non-pharmacologic interventions include many types such as cognitive behavioral therapy, relaxation therapy, the study aimed to study nurse’s perspectives in utilization of non-pharmacological pain management methods for post- operative patients. Methods: This was descriptive cross sectional hospital based study conducted at selected public hospitals in Khartoum State. It’s include (106) nurses working at general surgical words. Data was collected by a self-administered questionnaire and analysed by using computer statistical package of social program and presented in form of tables. Results: study revealed that, total knowledge of participants was adequate and there was a significant relationships between participant’s qualification and their using of guidelines in post-operative pain management. Majority of participants didn’t received any training course about pain management. The participants had inadequate knowledge about utilization of relaxation techniques in managing post- operative pain. Conclusion: The study concluded that, the majority of participants didn’t use standardized tools in assessing and managing the post- operative pain. Half of participants sometimes using non- pharmacological methods to manage post- operative pain and there is no significant relationship between participant’s experience in surgical department, qualification and using of these methods. So, study recommends that, encouragement of in- service training program, continuous professional developmental program should be introduced. Key words: nurses, perspectives, non pharmacological, methods, post-operative pain.Item Nurses’ Knowledge regarding Safety Measures toward Blood Borne Diseases in Hemodialysis Units, At Khartoum State- Sudan (2021- 2022)(Faculty Of Nursing Science, 2022) Aldowha Mohammed Aldowha; Higazi Mohammed Ahmed; Hanadi Mohammed Elhassen MukhtarBackground: Nurses play an important role at the dialysis units, they are the key health caregivers responsible for applying the foremost skills and principles of infection control steps throughout the process of hemodialysis. This may reflect their attitude and knowledge of infection control principles.The aim of this study to assess nurses’ knowledge regarding safety measures towards blood borne diseases in hemodialysis units. Methods: This is a descriptive, cross-sectional hospital based study, conducted at Khartoum main haemodialysis centres- Khartoum State, Sudan. Six main public hospitals were selected, plus the hospitals that provide haemodialysis. Seventy nurses providing haemodialysis were enrolled in this study, data was collected using self-administered questionnaire with an observational check list for data collection, data analysis was carried out using the statistical package for social sciences (SPSS), and the results were presented in descriptive and numerical forms as well as cross table P value considered significant at (0.05). Result: This study, revealed that participant nurses have poor knowledge about hand washing 34 (48.6) and mode of transition 29 (41.4%). The common causes of blood borne diseases was 34 (48.6%), while their knowledge was inadequate towards diseases that can be transmitted through blood 40 (57.1%). There is significant relationship between the course and efficiency of sterilization of the dialysis machine P-value < 0.031. Conclusion: The study concluded that total knowledge of participant was inadequate in spite of that they missed some information about infection control such as hand washing, methods of transmission and sterilization of machine. The study recommend regular in- service training for staff by workshop, seminar and audit regarding establishment and activation of infection control unit in each hospital, and have to employ qualified staff with supervised practice and establish standardize check list and guidelines. Keywords: blood borne diseases, nurses, knowledge, safety measuresItem The Effect of Training Program on Midwife’s Knowledge regarding Postpartum Hemorrhage at Aljenena town /Darfur(Faculty Of Nursing Science, 2022) Nafisa Ibrahim Abdelgadir, Sara Lavinia BrairBackground: Every year it is estimated that worldwide, more than 500 000 women die of complications of pregnancy and childbirth. At least 7 million women who survive childbirth suffer serious health problems Post-partum hemorrhage is one of the most alarming and serious emergencies which midwives face when hemorrhage occurs. The midwife plays central role in prevention and treatment of postpartum hemorrhage. Home birth deliveries are often in high demand, it requires the skills and confidence not only deliver babies, but to recognize early medical attendance or intervention. The aim is to assess the effect of training program on midwives, knowledge regarding of postpartum Hemorrhage Methods: A total coverage of village and hospital midwives in Aljenena town. Sample size consist of (86) midwives data were collected using structured interviewing questionnaire. Data were analyzed by using statistical package for social sciences Result: showed that tow third of midwives had poor knowledge about the causes of post-partum hemorrhage before intervention while their knowledge improved after intervention and more than forty of midwives had poor knowledge regarding risk factor of post-partum hemorrhage in pretest, while these changed to good knowledge in the posttest with highly statistical significant differences p=0.000. Less than tow third of midwives had poor knowledge about preventions of post-partum hemorrhage) before intervention. While, their knowledge improved after intervention. Conclusion: Based on the findings study concluded that the majority of midwives were lacked of the essential knowledge regarding PPH in pretest while knowledge improved after intervention. ________________________________________ Key word: midwifery training, postpartum hemorrhageItem Assessment of nurses’ knowledge and attitude about professional Nursing Etiquette at Elmek Nimer University Hospital. Shandi .Sudan(Faculty Of Nursing Science, 2022) Mohammed Jeberldar Abuanjanimer; Amel Ahmed Hassan MohammedBackground: Nursing etiquette used in clinical practice worldwide to deliver quality-individualized carكe to patients who lead to strengthen relationships with patient and present a positive professional image. The study aimed to assess nurse’s knowledge and attitude regarding professional nursing etiquette. Methods: Descriptive cross-sectional hospital-based study was carried out in Elmek Nimer university hospital. The study includes 120 nurses. The data was collected by structured interview sheet, designed by researcher based on reviewing of literature. The data is analyzed by using statistical package of social science version 20. Result: The study showed that majority of nurses applied professional nursing etiquette in the hospital. More than two third (75%) of nurses mentioned that characteristic of shoes should be white in color. while, more than third (36.7%) reveled that heel should be less than 2.5 cm without heel. More than half (53.3%) of nurses had acceptable knowledge about dress. Near to two third (61.2%) of nurses they smile in patient face. Majority of nurses have acceptable knowledge about walking, sitting in chair, squatting to pick up something from the floor and pushing the treatment chart in nursing work place. More than two third of nurses had acceptable knowledge about carrying treatment tray. While (83.3%) nocked the door first and use their hands to open room. Conclusion and recommendation: The study concluded that nurses had acceptable knowledge about nursing etiquette with positive attitude. The study recommended regular training and further studies in the Sudan. They are an important component of most machines, specifically mechanical ventilators (MV), because they notify nurses to changes in patients' conditions. As a result, nurses must understand the functions and limitations of ventilator modes, in addition to that they should have knowledge about alarm management (1). Intensive care unit (ICU) nurses are constantly exposed to alarms, which may not require immediate attention (2) (3). Excessive alarm exposure can affect patient safety (4) (5). The study aimed to study nurses' knowledge regarding Ventilator’s Alarms in Critical Care units. Methods This study is a descriptive cross sectional hospital based study, conducted at public hospitals in Khartoum State. 100 nurses working at Critical Care units were enrolled in this study. Data was collected by a self-administered questionnaire and analysed by statistical package of social sciences computer program. Results The study revealed that, total knowledge of participants was poor and there was a significant relationship between participants’ qualification and their knowledge to manage ventilator alarms. Conclusion The level of knowledge regarding assessment of ventilator alarms was good while total knowledge about ventilation alarm management was poor. Recommendation Regular in-service training of staff based on evidence-based practices pertaining to mechanical ventilation alarm practices is imperative that research be done to perform those practices. Khartoum State – Sudan(Faculty Of Nursing Science, 2022) Afaf Farag Alla Babiker Gaafar; Mohamed E. AhmedBackground: The Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (ICU) specialized in the care of cardiac patients which have very specific care needs, requiring the highest standard of professional care and professional team with specific competences for performing continuous monitoring and treatment the aim is to study knowledge of the nurses regarding care provided in cardiac intensive care unit. Method: Descriptive cross-sectional, hospital based-study, conducted at three cardiac intensive care units in Khartoum state. All nurses were enrolled (131) whom providing direct care for cardiac patients of more than six months experience. Data was collected by a self-administered questionnaire. The data was analyzed by statistical packages of social sciences version 21. Results The majority of the nurses (93.1 %) were knew that emergency crash cart should be checked periodically for exchanging the medication based on expiry date, most of them (86.3 %) were recognized that the defibrillator should be connected to the AC(Alternating current) power supply continuously, (87.8 % ) of the nurses had poor knowledge scores on availability of guideline for performing mouth care for ventilated patient, and, most of nurses (80%) showed a good knowledge scores regarding hemodynamic monitoring. There was no statistical significant association between the nurses knowledge and qualification (p value = 0.879). Conclusion: The study concluded that the nurses have a good total knowledge score in Cardiac Intensive Care Unit. Recommendations: The study recommended to enhance the nurses ‘knowledge in the intensive care units, a propose plan for frequent workshops, and in service education to be undertaken. ________________________________________ Key words: Cardiac ICU, knowledge, Nurses, Sudan ________________________________________ الخلفية: وحدة العناية المركزة للقلب (ICU) هي غرفة خاصة ومتخصصة في رعاية المرضي الذين يعانون من أمراض القلب المختلفة والتي تتطلب كادر تمريضي باعلي مستويات الرعاية المهنية وفريق محترف باعلي مستويات الكفاءة للقيام بدوره في المراقبة والعلاج المستمر.تهدف الدراسة لتقيم المعرفة بين الممرضين والممرضات في وحدة العناية المركزة للقلب طرق البحث: دراسة وصفية مقطعية ، أجريت هذه الدراسة في ثلاث وحدات للعناية المركزة للقلب بولاية الخرطوم, تم إدراج جميع الممرضات (131) اللائي يقدمن الرعاية المباشرة لمرضى القلب بخبرة أكثر من ستة شهور. تم جمع هذه البيانات بإستخدام الاستبيان. ثم تم تحليلها بواسطة الحزم الإحصائية للعلوم الاجتماعية الإصدار 21 النتائج :لقد اظهرت النتائج غالبية الممرضين و الممرضات (93.1٪) لديهم مستوي معرفي جيد بضرورة فحص عربة ادوية الطوارئ بشكل دوري بغرض إعادة تعبئته بالادوية بناءًعلى تاريخ انتهاء الصلاحية ، معظمهم (86.3٪) يدركون أن جهازالصاعق الكهربائي (لإزالة رجفان القلب) يجب توصيله بالتيارالكهربائي (التيار المتردد) بشكل مستمر, بينما(87.8٪) منهم لديهم مستوى ضعيف من المعرفة فيمايتعلق بالمبادئ التوجيهية لتنفيذ العناية بالفم ومعظمهم (80٪) ) أظهر مستوى جيدًا من المعرفة بمراقبة الدورة الدموية والعلامات الحيوية. لا توجد علاقة ذات دلالة إحصائية بين درجات المؤهلات العلمية والمعرفة بقيمة إحتمالية 0.879 الخلاصة: لقد خلصت الدراسة إلى أن الممرضين والممرضات حصلواعلى درجات معرفة إجمالية جيدة بوحدة العناية المركزة لامراض القلب .التوصيات: أوصت الدراسة بتعزيز معرفة الممرضين و الممرضات بوحدات العناية المركزة وينبغي وضع خطة مقترحة لورش العمل المتكررة والتعليم أثناء الخدمة.
