Abstract

Abstract This research aims at explaining the possibility ot applying linear programming models in real life situations, namely 1 The Arabic company for Agricultural Production and Processing and the Arabic live stock development company. The major research question asked is : what is the effect of using linear programming models in production planning and management 7 To find an answer to this question, the following hypotheses were developed: (l) Using LP techniques will help the two companies management in production planning by determining the optimum product mix at maximum profit. (2) Using LP models will help the two companies managements to select the optimum production mix that will minimize the total cost to lowest level. (3) Using linear programming models will enable the two companies to develop transportation plans to carry the maximum amount of their product with the least possible cost. To examine these hypotheses the case study is used as a general methodology doges. Different linear programming models are used namely 1 LP graphical method , LP simplex methods . LP transportation models. in addition to sensitivity analysis is used to examine the ranges of optimum solution. The finding of the research are 1 (I) The operation research models - specifically LP models enabled the two companies in finding optimum utilization plan of their limited resource with respect to production configuration and maximum profit . (2) The research revealed that using LP models enable the two companies management in combining the inputs mix in such away that maximize their profit or minimize their cost . (3) The research result revealed that using LP models enable the two companies to developed transportation plans for carrying the maximum amount of their products to different destination with least possible cost .

Based on these findings, the researcher provided a number ol recommendations: ( l)The researcher recommends that the production and planning managers must make used of linear programming models in establishing their production mix . (2) The researcher recommends that more research should be conducted using different LP models _ We also recommended the companies to maintain seminars . lectures to enhance their manager awareness of the importance and usefulness of LP models .
