In this paper we will highlight our research interest in the field of simulating highly viscous non-Newtonian flow in porous media. A brief account of continuum models for transport in porous media and of the role of length scales in passing from pore-scale phenomena to Darcy flow in the reservoir is discussed. We also survey recent development of computer methods used in solving such problems. Then we solve localized hydrodynamics for the fluid flow problem in oil reservoir using software programs to predict critical parameter values such as shear stress and velocity field in regions of interest. Challenges faced at the boundary are tackleden_US
