Abstract

Abstract Colorectal cancer is one of the most common malignancies in the world. Colorectal carcinogenesis is characterized by multiple genetic alterations and is preceded by aseries of histopathologically recognizable precarcerous lesion that progress to adenocarcinoma over a period of a year. Cyclin D1 is a cell regulatory protein, which is believed to play an important role in both tumorgenesis and grading of many cancers. This study was conducted at ELrahma Medical Center EL amal Hospital & Bahri Hospital during period from 2010 to 2017 Aim to determine the Immunohistochemical expression of cyclin D1 in colorectal carcinoma among Sudanese patients Materials and methods A total of sixty five paraffin blocks of patients were collected previously diagnosed with colorectal carcinoma, study included males and females in different age. The paraffin blocks were cut by rotary microtome, and then stained by immunohistochemistry technique (dextran polymer conjugated secondary – HRP).The data obtained were analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences program version 20(Frequencies, mean and Chi –square test values) were calculated. Results: In this study the result of patients with ages ranged between (20 – 82) years with average age 47 years. The study revealed that most patients were 41and more than 41years representing 37(57%) and the remaining 28(43%) were less than 41years.Forty tow (65%) were males while 23(35%) were females. Expression of cyclinD1 in study population was (13/65) 20%positive while(52/65)80%showed negative expression. This result showed insignificant association of expression of cyclinD1and colorectal adenocarcinoma The grade of Adencarcinoma showed well differentiated in 7(11%) samples, moderate differentiated in 39(60%)samples , poor differentiated in 19(29%), and Conclusions: From results of our study we concluded that expression of cyclinD1 in this study was 20% in colorectal adenocarcinoma study population, Expression of cyclinD1is higher in moderate differentiated than other grades, in male patients more than female and in young patients more than older .
