Environmental Management of Food Industry in Khartoum State, Sudan

Abstract

Abstract: The present study was proposed to evaluate of the environmental impact of food industry facilities in Khartoum State focusing on identification of environmental and economic effects caused by food industry. Data collection in this work was conducted using primary and secondary methods through: field visits, personal communication with experts in the food industry, descriptive methods available sources of information and questionnaires, five food industry factories were chosen in Khartoum North “Bahri” and Omdurman Localities. These are a Dairy factory, Sweets factory, Flour Mills, Meat Factory and soft drink factory. The obtained data was statistically analyzed using SPSS/21 (P< 0.05).The results reflect large differences in the food processing stages and methods and their impact on the surrounding environment. Maximum negative impact of this industry was associated with the type of energy used in food processes e. g. flour Factory. Many recommendations were put forward and which is expected to solve some of the problems related to this industry.

ملخص البحث أعدت الدراسة الحالية لتقييم الأثر البيئي لمنشآت الصناعات الغذائية في محلية الخرطوم مع التركيز على تحديد الآثار البيئية والاقتصادية التي تسببها الصناعة الغذائية. تم جمع المعلومات في هذه الدراسة باستخدام الأساليب الأولية والثانوية: الزيارة الميدانية، والمقابلة الشخصية مع الخبراء في صناعة الأغذية، والطرق الوصفية، ومصادر المعلومات المتاحة والاستبيانات تم اختيار خمسة مصانع غذائية في محليتي الخرطوم شمال (بحري) وأم درمان وهي: مصنع منتجات الألبان، ومصانع اللحوم، مصنع حلاوة طحنية، مصنع الدقيق ومصنع المياة الغازية. تم تحليل البيانات التي تم الحصول عليها احصائياً باستخدام برنامج((SPSS/21 P<0.05) ( تعكس النتائج اختلافات كثير في مراحل وطرق صناعة الأغذية وآثارهم على البيئة المجاورة، حيث أن أقصي تأثير سلبي على البيئية يحدث نتائج استخدام طاقة غير متجددة (مثل مصنع الدقيق). تم اقتراح العديد من التوصيات والتي من المتوقع أن تساهم في حل المشاكل المتعلقة بهذه المصانع.
