Prevalence and risk factors associated with Hepatitis B Surface Antigen (HBsAg) in West Darfur State.

dc.description.abstractBackground: Hepatitis B becomes a major problem among overall the world, especially among conflict area and displaced people since West Darfur State considered as struggle area. Objective: This study has been carried out in West Darfur State from April to July 2018 to detect the prevalence of HBV in the state. Materials and Methods: In a cross sectional study, 500 volunteers with ages (1 year-85 years), males (247) and females (253), were included, data were collected using instructed questionnaire, HBsAg was measured using ICT, and data were analyzed by Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) version (23). Results: The analyses of frequency showed that, out of 500 subjects understudy, 243 (48.6%) from El genina locality, followed by 44 (8.8%) from Furbaranga locality, 29 (5.8%) from Habila locality, 33 (6.6%) from Serba locality, 26 (5.2%) from Kolboos locality, 30 (6.0%) from Kerainik locality, 45(9.0%) Murnay, 23 (4.6%) from Gabal moon locality and 27(5.4%) were from Baida locality. In order to demonstrate the frequency, age was classified based on Frances departmental standard, which further showed that, children were 76 (15.2%) followed by youth 163 (32.6%), Adult 234 (46.8%) and seniors were 27 (5.4%). In addition the frequency of educational level was as follow, uneducated were 154 (30.8%), Primary school 135 (27.0%), Secondary school 151 (30.2%), Graduated 54 (10.8%) and Post graduated were 6 (1.2%). The frequency of gender, males were 247 (49.4%) and females 253 (50.6%). Marital status, married were 309 (61.8%) and unmarried 191 (38.8%), Smoking 86 (17.2%), Alcohol use 72 (14.4%), Immigrant 156 (31.2%), Blood transfused 45 (9.0%), Tattooing used 54 (10.8%), Pregnant 65 (13.0%), Used sterile syringes 160 (32.0%) and Displaced 85 (17.0%). Conclusions: The data of present study concludes that, the prevalence of HBV infection is 11.0% in West Darfur. HBV is common in males and married subjects. Cigarette smoking and alcohol used are risk factors for HBV infection. Moreover, used sterile syringes is a risk factor for HBV infection. No associations were observed with level of education, blood transfusion, tattooing used, pregnancy, immigrant and displace with HBV infection.en_US
