Abstract
Abstract
Background: Vitamin D play an important roles in human health. This include
regulation of calcium level, cell proliferation and differentiation. Vitamin D
deficiency has now been recognized as a pandemic all over the world.
Aim of this study: The aim of this study was to investigate the Prevalence of vitamin
D deficiency among Sudanese subjects referral to Fedail Hospital in Khartoum State.
Materials and Methods: In this cross-sectional study; lll subjects were randomly
selected, 83 were females and 28 were males, all participants were verbally informed.
Sertun vitamin D and caleimn levels were measured. in the research, Data was
analyzed statistically by using SPSS.
Results: 75% of our study population have vitamin D deficiency. No significant
difference in vitamin D level between females (2l.65ill.86 ng/ml) and males
(24.52i12.60 ng/ml). However, females had more frequency of severe vitamin D
deficiency 23% than males 10%. There was no association between vitamin D status
and calcium.
Conclusion: The data of the present study suggests that, the prevalence of vitamin D
deficiency is 75% among our population. Females at higher risk to have severe
vitamin D deficiency than males. Moreover no association observed between vitamin
D status and calcium.
