Abstract
This prospective-retrospective hospital-based study aimed at investigating the
incidence and causes of chronic renal failure in Jenin district which becomes a
great problem in the last few years . The study also aimed at comparing the
lipid profile of hemodialysis patients to the lipid profile of normal healthy
controls and making general assessment for the chance of developing
atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease .The study also aimed at comparing the
lipid profile of diabetic hemodialysis patients to the lipid profile of non-
diabetic hemodialysis patients to the lipid profile of normal healthy controls.
The study also aimed to know the outcome of the patients at the end of the
study and calculating the annual mortality rate among hemodialysis patients .
The study was conducted in the period from 1/8/2005 to 1/8/2006 on CRF
and end-stage renal disease patients treated by hemodialysis in The Martyr

and 7 under conservative treatment (without dialysis) .98 healthy individuals
served as controls for lipid profile comparison .
All the patients and control individuals were asked to fill a questionnaire
which was previously put by the researcher , the questionnaire provided
informations about the various characteristics and personal medical history.
Some informations about patients and history of the disease were taken from
files of the patients and from the physicians and nursing staff in the kidney
unit .Lipid profiles for patients and normal healthy controls were analyzed
using colorimetric methods ,tllen the results were put in the suitable place in
the questionnaire .
