Intestinal Parasites among Diabetic Patients in Kosti City ,White Nile State

Abstract

The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of intestinal parasites among diabetic patients in Kosti in White Nile State. In this study, 100 stool samples were collected from 50 diabetic patients and 50 non diabetic patients .Stool samples were processed by direct wet preparation and Formal-ether concentration technique. The result showed that out of showed that out of 100 fecal samples examined 50 diabetic and 50 non diabetic, 48 were found positive for gastrointestinal parasites among diabetics and 7 among non diabetics. This constituted an overall prevalence rate of 96.0% among diabetics and 14.0% among non diabetic . The prevalence of different parasites was found as follows: Giardia lambelia (47.9%), Hymenolepis nana (29.2%), Enterobius vermicularis (2.1%), Ascaris lumbercoides (4.2%), Entamoeba histolytica(16.7%). The prevalence of intestinal protozoa was 65.3% and intestinal helminthes was 34.7%.
