dc.description.abstractAbstract This study aims at explaining the effect of strategic planning on the performance of the insurance companies and the extent to which insurance companies are efficiency. applying strategic planning as well as its role in enhancing performance The researcher reviewed the concept of strategic management as a general framework, then strategic planning is explained in details as a core component of strategic management. The study used descriptive analytical methodology, The problem of the study is manifested in the extent to which insurance companies are able to deal with strategic planning effectively. We raised three major questions: ls there a real manifestation of the theoretical concepts of strategic management and the practices at the insurance companies? ls there an effective strategic planning that ensure the improvement of Sudanese insurance companies? ls there any endeavor to assess the strategic plans of insurance companies? . The study examined a number of hypotheses: (1) Strategic management is practiced as an operational activity without any scientific reference. (2) Strategic planning provides the organization with the main thinking profile and it helps in directing and integrating the managerial and executive activities. (3) Performance improvement and the practice ofjobs effectively are related to strategic planning since it provides employees with feedback of their performance. The study finds that , there is a na‘|'ve practice of strategic management that depends in almost all, the cases, on the general manager and his experience without any scientific reference. The strategic planning is not used as a guide to work within insurance companies because of the instability of those companies leader. Depending on these facts , the researcher provides a number of recommendations , the most important one that is more effort should be excreted to the academic background of the leaders, also training of middle level manager should be emphasized as well as dissemination of strategic objectives to the operational levels to safeguard their achievement.en_US
