Abstract
Abstract
Cadmium sulphide is semiconductor material with magnetic properties, which is used
in many sort of electronic devices. The main properties of this material are its high
electrical resistance and insulation . The aim of this study is to prepare and study the
optical and synthetic properties of cadmium sulphide.four samples of cadmium
sulphide with preparation by different molar ( Cd 0.01 S 0.99 / Cd 0.17 S 0.83 / Cd 0.125 S 0.75
and Cd 0.33 S 0.67 ) . Four samples of Cadmium sulphide were prepared using Sol-gel
technique. The reason of using this technique is for its purification of fluids being the
starting material of the process; it can produce materials with high purity. The optical
properties were studied by UV spectrometer. The absorption of the sample from
Cadmium sulphide was rapid increased of the a absorption at wavelengths (373 n)
crospanding photon energy 3.32 eV, the value of absorption coefficient (α) =
1.554x10 3 cm -1 for all samples in the U.V region(373nm) , this means that the
transition must corresponding to a direct electronic transition. The extinction
coefficient value (K) at 373 nm for each sample Cd 0.33 S 0.67 is 4.566x10 -5 while for
Cd 0.01 S 0.99 sample at the some wavelength equal 2.575 x10 -5 . The infrared spectra of
synthesized Cd x S 1-x nano samples powders were recorded by mattson Fourier
Transform Infrared Spectrophotometer in the range of 400 to 4000 , the band around
1375 cm −1 is associated with the O-H bending vibration ,and band around 1639 cm −1 .
