Abstract

Abstract It has been shown that heavy metals toxicity to humans is as a result of long term or high level exposure to pollutants common in the environment including the air, water, food and numerous consumer products such as the cosmetics and toiletries. In this study, sixty three samples of cosmetic products were analyzed for total lead, mercury and cadmium by Direct Mercury Analyzer and Atomic Absorption Spectrometry. The samples were divided into three groups A: creams, B: lotions and C, oils and ointments). Our study analysis revealed the pH levels among tested groups were (3.50-7.84) in creams, (3.02-7.30) in lotions, (3.35-10.9)in oils and ointments, while moisture content distribution were, (0.20-99.3 %) in creams, (22.6-93.4 %) in lotions, (23.9-95.8 %) in oils and ointments, for organic matter the level were, (82.5-99.9 %) in creams, (96.5-99.5 %) in lotions, (96.5-99.9 %) in oils and ointments. Regarding the concentration of the heavy metals the results showed that. lead levels were, (0.009-0.093ppm) in creams, (0.005-0.760ppm) in lotions, (0.007-0.620ppm) in oils and ointments ,for mercury the level were, (0.004-93.70ppm)in creams, (0.100-22.19ppm) in lotions, (0.005-16.59ppm) in oils and ointments , and that cadmium were, (No detected) in creams, (No detected) in lotions, (0.004-0.340ppm) in oils and ointments. It is obvious from the present study that the presence of toxic heavy metals in some cosmetic products even occasional occurrence in low concentrations (below the recommended level) like lead and cadmium, while we found high amount of mercury in these cosmetics especially in creams. The use of such creams may lead to health hazards and significant risks to users. Therefore, it is recommended that all skin-lightning creams should be checked for mercury levels before marketing and educates consumers about the hazards they pose.

لقد تم توضيح درجة سمية المعادن الثقيله ومدى تأثيرها على صحة الانسان نتيجة لتعرض بيئته للتلوث المائي أو الهوائي أو للاستخدام المفرط طويل الأمد لمستحضرات التجميل. في هذه الدراسه، عدد 63 عينات من مستحضرات التجميل حللت لتحديد تركيز الرصاص، الزئبق والكادميوم بواسطة جهاز تحليل الزئبق المباشر وجهاز الامتصاص الذري. قسمت هذه العينات لثلاث مجموعات هي، الكريمات، اللوشنات والزيوت والمراهم. ركزت هذه الدراسه على تقدير نسبة الرطوبه ، قيم الرقم الهيدروجيني ونسبة المواد العضويه في بعض مستحضرات التجميل بالاضافه الى قياس مستويات ثلاث من المعادن الثقيله هي الرصاص، الزئبق والكادميوم، وبعد اجراء الدراسه وجد ان الرقم الهيدروجيني تفاوتت معدلاته بين (3.50-7.84) للكريمات، (3.02-7.30) للوشنات، (3.35-10.9) للزيوت والمراهم، اما معدلات الرطوبه فتراوحت بين (0.20-99.2) للكريمات، (22.6-93.4) للوشنات، (23.9-95.8) للزيوت والمراهم، اما المواد العضويه فتراوحت بين (82.5-99.9) للكريمات، (96.5-99.5) للوشنات، (96.5-99.9) للزيوت والمراهم. اظهرت النتائج وجود كميات قليله من الرصاص تراوحت بين (0.009-0.093) للكريمات، (0.005-0.76) للوشنات، (0.007-0.620) للزيوت والمراهم، اما قيم الزئبق فان كميته تراوحت بين (0.004-93.70) للكريمات، (0.100-22.19) للوشنات، (0.005-16.59) للزيوت والمراهم، وبالنسبه للكادميوم فانه لم يوجد في الكريمات واللوشنات اما في الزيوت والمراهم (0.004-0.34). خلصت الدراسه الى وجود كميات من المعادن الثقيله في مستحضرات التجميل بكميات متفاوته وعلى الرغم من أن بعضها دون المعدل الضار كما في الرصاص و الكادميوم ، بينما وجدت كميات كبيره من الزئبق في بعض من مستحضرات التجميل وخصوصا في الكريمات. استخدام هذه الكريمات قد يؤدي الى مخاطر صحيه كبيره للمستخدمين. امتصاص الزئبق بالجلد من خلال كريمات التفتيح تؤثر على الجلد نفسه، الكليتين والجهاز العصبي لذلك يوصى ان يتم فحص الكريمات قبل دخولها الاسواق وتثقيف المستهلكين بشأن المخاطر التي تشكلها.
