Abstract

Background: The elevated plasma homocysteine level has been identified as a risk factor for cerebrovascular diseases. This Hyperhomocysteinaemia occurs "in part" as a result of polymorphism/s in methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) gene. Of these polymorphisms is The C677T which may represent an important genetic risk factor in vascular diseases. Aim: This study aim to assess the relationship between the presence of the C677T polymorphism of the MTHFR gene and the risk of stroke in Bahraini population.
