dc.description.abstractBackground: Viral hepatitis is one of the major public health concerns around the world. Every year many millions people die from viral hepatitis related cirrhosis and liver cancer. Anti-HBe when present in Hepatitis B surface Ag carriers that mean blood is potentially less infectious and the results may contribute to the diagnosis and treatment of chronic hepatitis B (CHB) patients. Aims: This study aimed to detect anti-HBe in infected chronic hepatitis B patients attended different health facility in Khartoum state. Materials and methods: A descriptive cross sectional study was carried out 70 serum samples collected from known chronic HBsAg carriers attending different health facility in Khartoum, sera collected and tested for anti-HBe by using commercial ELISA Kits. Results: 70 total study sera of which 37 (52.9%) were under antiviral treatment and 33 (47.1%) were treatment naive.54 (77.1%) were males while16 (22.9%) were females. Their age group was ranged between ages 19 to 65 years old, with mean 34 years old. Anti-HBe antibodies were detected in 58(82.9%). Conclusion: High prevalence of anti-HBe antibodies in study populations was detected, especially in treated patients; it’s a good indicator for patients prognosis.en_US
