Chemical composition, antimicrobial and antioxidant activities of Kigelia Africana extract

| dc.description.abstract | Abstract Chemical constituents and pharmacological properties of Kigelia Africana improved to be developed as drug by pharmaceutical industries. This study was conducted to evaluate the phytochemical, antioxidant and antimicrobial activity of ethanol extract of Kigelia Africana fruit. Phytochemical screening of ethanol extract of K. Africana revealed the presence of alkaloids, tannins, flavonoids, saponins, carbohydrates, terpenes, steroids and starch was not presence. The ethanol extract percentage was determined it gave yield (6.2 %). The quantitative determination of chemical constituency showed that flavonoids represented (8.11%), alkaloids (6.4%). The ethanolic extract of K. Africana showed DPPH free radical scavenging activity (63±0. 02%).The antimicrobial test was investigated. The ethanol extract was given active result against Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Bacillus subtilis, and partially active against Escherichia coli. It also gave active result against Candida albicans fungus. المستخلص الهدف من الدراسة تقييم مدى فعالية مستخلصات ثمار أم شطور ,ودراسة نشاطها كمضادة للأكسدة والميكروبات .تم المسح الكميائي للمستخلص الكحولي (الايثانول ) للنبات والذي اسفر عن وجود القلويدات والتانينات والفلافونيدات والصابونيات والكربوهيدريدات والتربينات والأسستيروديدات وعدم وجود النشا .كما تم تقديرنسبة المستخلص الكحولي (الايثانول ) التي وجدت(6.2%) ٬كما تم التقدير الكمي لبعض المكونات الكيميائية حيث وجد أن الفلافونيدات8.11%)) وتليها القلويدات (6.4%).كما اجريت التجارب المعملية الحيوية للمستخلص لاختبار فعاليتها كمضادات للأكسدة والتي اظهرت نتيجة63±0.02%)) للمستخلص ,كما تم التحقق من المستخلص الكحولي كمضاد للميكروبات فوجد أنه أعطى فعالية مع البكتيريا العصوية والعنقودية والزائفة الزنجارية وفطر المبيضة .كما أعطى فعالية جزئية مع بكتيريا القولون. | en_US |
