Abstract
Abstract This research aimd at explaining the impact of size on organizational structure at National Electricity Corporation. The problem of the study is manifested in the effect of size on organizational structure and to what extent the increase in size lead to increase in management levels as well as difficulties in coordination and control . Moreover , the extent to which the increase in size increased the formalization . A number of hypotheses were developed: the increase in organizational size leads to increase in management levels and difficulties of coordination and control. Also, the size leads to complexity as well as formalization and centralization.
Case study methodology is used to carry out the research. Asample size of 15% of the employees of NEC were selected.
Secondary data were collected from books, researches where primary data were collected via questionnaires. SPSS was utilized to analyze and presents the results .Using statistics such as frequency tables and ratios.
The study is structured in to four chapters. Chapter one is an introductory chapter in which the problem of the study, objectives and hypotheses as well as the research methodology is presented . The literature review and theoretical framework are presented in chapter two. Chapter three is devoted to historical back ground about the National Electricity Corporation (NEC). The results and recommendations are presentation in chapter four.
The research found that the NEC is high formalized corporation in addition to a high degree of decentralization of decision making, this was revealed in the discretion authorized to the directorates and departments at the NEC . Also , vertical and spatial differentiation ( I . C ., complexity ) . Moreover, the results revealed appositive relationship between size and coordination of control.
Anumber of recommendations are suggested to the National Electricity Corporation , most important ones are : continuity of decentralized of customs , care services , creating conductive working environment as well as encouraging employees to excel at work and and effective participation . Also , the study recommends the NEC to----- the acapabilitiesof employees by providing more training that meet the new working standards . On the other hand , the study recommends to reduce the capacity of decentralization in strategic decision making that needs more involvement of top management .
For there more , the study recommends to limit the degree of formalization that hides the ability of staff to take innovative and creative actions at work .
The study recommends further research in this area , specifically , the structural dimension which were not considered in this research .
