GC\MS of methanolic extract from Datura stramonium leaves and its anti-oxidant and antimicrobial activities

Abstract

Abstract The aim of this Study was to investigate Antioxidant and Antimicrobial Activity of methanolic extract from Datura stramonium leaves ,the Fresh plant leaves was collected, dried in room temperature, crashed and extracted by suxholet apparatus, chemical constituent of extract were determine by GC-MS, Antimicrobial activity of the extract carried out using disc diffusion method in vitro against four bacterial samples (Bacillus subtitles, Staphylococcus aurous, Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa) and one fungi Candida albicans. The anti-oxidant activity of Datura stramonium methanolic extract was assyed by DPPH method and was reading at 517nm. No antimicrobial activity wear obtained from Datura staramonuim leaves methanolic extract against the microbes that were used, where as a high anti-oxidant activity was obtained from the methanolic extract.
