Abstract
Back ground: Emerging evidence suggested that using oral contraceptives
lead to many complications to female body system and also affect vitamin
B12 level, so this study aimed to assess vitamin B12 level on Sudanese
women who are using oral contraceptives and compare the vitamin level
with those who are not using oral contraceptive and to correlate between
vitamin B12 level with the duration of oral contraceptives and women age.
Materials and methods: This is a case control study involved 30 Sudanese
women under oral contraceptives set as case group and other 30 Sudanese
volunteers women who didn’t use contraceptives set as normal control
group. Their blood samples were used for measurement of vitamin B12
levels via enzyme linked immune-sorbent assay (ELSA). Data obtained
analyzed by SPSS version 22.
Results: vitamin B12 levels were found statistical significantly lower among
women under contraceptives compared with those women without under
oral contraceptives (69.85j47 .07 vs 262.37i59+.6 pg P value 0.00)
Conclusion: The present studies conclude that serum vit B12 levels were
statistically significant decreased among Sudanese women under
contraceptives compared with those women without under oral
