Evaluation of Serum Magnesium Level among Sudanese Patients with Chronic Renal Failure

Abstract

Abstract Background: The chronic kidney disease (CKD) is consider for the majority of global morbidity and mortality, rather than infectious disease. More than 2 million people die prematurely every year because treatment for kidney failure is unavailable, the hypermagnesiumia is developed in CKD when the GFR less than the normal range. Objective: the aim of this study was to assess the serum magnesium level among Sudanese patients with chronic renal failure. Materials and methods: the study was case control hospital based study conducted in Noor Elhuda center_ Khartoum state. 100 subjects were enrolled. Fifty (50) individuals will be selected from police hospital as patients with chronic renal failure. And fifly (50) healthy individual as control group. Level of magnesium was measured by using mindray analyzer. Results: The results were showed a significant increase in serum magnesium level in patients with chronic renal failure, when compare with control group (2.22i0.9l) (l.78i0.29)p value (0.002) respectively. Conclusion: The study was observed that, significant increase of serum magnesium level in chronic renal failure patients. There was show positive correlation between magnesium and creatinine levels.
