The thesis aims at evaluating the Comptencies
essential to Geography teachers in Yemen secondary schools.
Those Comptencies have beenput into a list as a standard by
which the Geography teachers, skills and achievements could
be examined and then improved.
The researcher has applied the questionaire to a specimen of
Geography teachers and supervisors in Dhamar governorate so
as to identify how far those Comptencies are attained regarding
the variations mentioned above.(100 )teachers from
(30)schools have had to answer the questionaire. Only
(69*)copies could have been collected,whereas (10)copies have
been answered by Geography supervisors in the
governorate.For the sake of identifying and analysing the
results, the statistical diction for social sciences was applied
via program ((spss)).After analysing the i~esults.the study has come out to the
following: -
1. There are no statistical differences between the average views of the
teachers and those of the supervisors about the standard attainment
of experiences among the teachers .except for (0 , 01) in the
educational and practical aids for supervisors.
2. There are no statistical differences betwens the teachers ,views
whether they are educationally qualified or not.
3. There are no statistical differences between the teachers,views
whether they have a long or short experience 4
Suggetions and recommendations:
In the light of the forgoing results, the researcher can make the
following suggestions: _
I. Recommendations for improving Geography teaching in Yemeni
schools:
1. Reforming the admission regulation in the faculties of
educations so that the students capable of study are only admitted.
2'. Reformulating the aims of the Geography teacher
qualifying at education colleges and in compliance with the
Comptencies essential to them. ’
3’. Training of Geography teachers on how to prepare and utilize the
educatioal aids usefully. 4 . To hold some courses for training and refreshing the teachers
which must include useful programs that aim at enhancing their
experience and providing them with new Competencies.
5. Teachers should make some educational researches on the
problems they face.
6 . The evaluation of supervisors, performance and activating
their supervison through the training courses.
Suggestions for further studies and researcher.
In the light of what has been mentioned we suggest that:
1 An analytic and evaluative study should be conduted on the
program of preparing Geography teachers in the Faculty of
Education, Dhamar University according to the Comptencies in
this thesis.
2. The improvement of this program in all
faculties of education in the light of the Comptencies s of the thesis
3‘ Corresponding studies should be conducted through collecting
the views of school and college students in Geography about how
useful the contemporary Comptencies are to teachers.
