The purpose of this study was to assess bacteriological, physical, and chemical quality of drinking water distributed at Khartoum metropolitan state, in order to ascertain water quality for human consumption. The samples were collected randomly from 15 different locations in the city and analyzed using standard procedures. As a result of bacteriological analysis, all the fifteen treated tap water samples (100%) were positive for bacterial contamination. Isolation of coliform bacteria was confirmed and isolates were tentatively identified as Enterobacter sp., Citrobacter sp. and E. coli, at a percentage of 28.6% for each of them, and and Klebsiella sp. was comprised only (14.2%) from Al=Mugran and Al-Mamora water samples. As a result of chemical and physical analysis, EC, TDS, pH, Magnesium and Calcium Hardness and the Total Hardness, in all samples, were within permissible limits of World Health Organization ( WHO, 1995)
