Faculty Of Arts Library And Information Science Department Year: 2006 This study aims to: 1- Evaluate the Library Collections in The Republican Palace library, and the collections of The Ministry Of Foreign Affairs Library. 2- Avoid limitations and activate the inter~library loan between governmental institutions library. 3- Draw attentions of stakeholders to support these libraries. 4- To involve users in selection process. The weakness of library collections in the two libraries, Lack of inter — library loan and cooperative plans between governmental institution libraries, lack of financial support and lack of well — trained staff represent the problem of the study. A number of research methods were used: 1- The descriptive and analytical methods with reference books, periodicals and the internet were used. 2- Quantative and measurement method was also used for holdings and indexes. 3-Case study method, also used for studying The Republican Palace and Ministry Of Foreign Affairs Libraries. In addition to these methods, the personal notes, the questionnaire and interviews were also used. The questionnaire was distributed to sample consist of 76 users. In addition to the conclusion the study includes five chapters: chapter one is about the governmental institution libraries which include: instruction, definition of specialized governmental institution libraries, its functions, and sample of these libraries such as: library of Cabinet Of Ministers Library, The Chapter, also, includes the problems of the governmental institution libraries. Chapter two represents the holdings of specialized governmental institution libraries, its services and the evaluation of these libraries. Chapter three is about the evaluation of theses libraries, which include an introduction, the concept of library evaluation and its goals, the motives of evaluation, the factors of the evaluation process, the difficulties and the standards of evaluation. Chapter four consists of two divisions: the first is about The Republican Palace: historical background, the library, library building, constitution and the development, the users, its goals, its functions, its furniture, its holdings, departments, and divisions, services, financial resources and automation. The second division is about Ministry Of Foreign Affairs library which includes: background of the ministry and its constitution, its buildings, the library, the furniture, the users, the administration, the staff, the departments, services, holdings and financial resources. Chapter five Consist of: conclusion and result of the study and data analysis, recommendations, references and appendixes. The results of the study were: 1- The weakness of the holdings of the two libraries specially in social sciences which include political sciences and international relations, arts, and pure sciences, in addition to dissertations. The factor affects the two libraries holdings in the financial resources factor. 2- Most of the users use periodicals and generalities. 3- Most of the users use the two libraries for general readings. The recommendations of the study are: 1- The two libraries should open from 9 am to 9 pm to fulfill users requirements. 2- Separated financial resources should be provided. 3- Improvement and promotion of library services. 4- An inter — library loan and cooperation plan should be made. 5- Intensive training courses for the two libraries staff should be highly considered.
