It is also widely referred to as Oregano. In this study the preliminary phytochemical screening of (Origanum majorana L.), methanol, ethanol and water leaf extracts, revealed the presence of flavonoids, terpenoids, steroids, tannins, alkaloids, phenolic compounds, carbohydrates, reducing sugars, deoxy sugars, coumarins, proteins, quinines, anthraquinones, carotenoids, emadols , and saponins. Antimicrobial test was done for each extract to test its activity against four types of bacteria and one fungal. The result have shown that all extract have anti-bacterial activity. In particular, the extracts of petroleum ether and chloroform have demonstrated an increased efficacy against the bacteria under study, compared to the other extract. The extracts of Origanum majorana L leaf was extracted by soxhlet extraction method . Origanum majorana L revealed that, methanol gave the highest value of total weight in percentage yield (18%), followed by petroleum ether (1.73%), and chloroform (1.32%). Chemical composition of the chloroform extract was investigated using GC/MS spectroscopy where 30 compounds as hydrocarbons, alcohols, free acids and aliphatic ester. مستخلص البحث المردقوش أو البردقوش هي عشب عطري في عائلة النعناع التي نشأت في مصر والجزيرة العربية و يشار إليها أيضًا باسم أوريجانو. في هذه الدراسة ، كشف الفحص الأولي الكيميائي لأوراق نباتات المردقوش لمستخلصات الميثانول والإيثانول عن وجود مركبات الفلافونويد والتيربينويدات والإستيرويدات والتانينات والقلويدات والمركبات الفينولية والكربوهيدرات السكريات المختزلة والسكريات الأكسيدية والكوموريات، البروتينات، الكينينات، الأنثراكينونات، الكاروتينات و الصابونين. تم إجراء اختبار مضاد الميكروبات لكل مستخلص لإختبار نشاطه ضد أربعة أنواع من البكتيريا والفطريات. لقد أظهرت النتيجة أن جميع المستخلصات لها نشاط مضاد للبكتريا، على وجه الخصوص ، أ ظهرت مستخلصات إثير البترول وكلوروفورم فعالية متزايدة ضد البكتيريا قيد الدراسة ، مقارنة بالمستخلصات الآخرى. تم استخراج مستخلصات أوريجانوم ماجورانا بطريقة الإستخلاص المستمر. أوضح أوريجانوم ماجورانا أن الميثانول أعطى أعلى قيمة للوزن الكلي في النسبة المئوية للعائد (18٪) ، يليه إثير البترول (1.73٪) ثم الكلوروفورم (1.32٪). تم التحقيق في التركيب الكيميائي لمستخلص الكلوروفورم باستخدام التحليل الطيفي GC / MS حيث يوجد 30 مركبًا مثل الهيدروكربونات والكحول والأحماض الحرة والإستر الأليفاتي .ChemistryOriganum majoranaThesis
