Abstract
ABSTRACT
This study attempts to fill a gap in the field of teaching and
learning of negation and interrogation in the context of Sudan. It has
been conducted with the aim of investigating the problems and
difficulties that face the Sudanese learners of English with special
reference to learners of English at University of Gedarif, Faculty of
Education, English Department, Batch 12.
This study has four hypotheses, they dealt with the difficulties
in negation and that face the learners and the causes of these
difficulties in addition to present a suitable solutions by proposing a
separate course for teaching and learning of negation and
interrogation. Experimental methods has been made to collect data
from learners and teachers at English departments in Sudan, the
learners are student of English at University of Gedarif Faculty of
Education English Department Batch 12 as an example of Sudanese
learners of English. Three tests are administrated to the learners and
a questionnaire for teachers, beside an evaluation of the syllabuses of
some Sudanese universities. The analysis of the collected data has
revealed that, the Sudanese learners of English find some difficulties
while dealing with negation and interrogation; an explicit taught
course was introduced to the learners, the performance of the
learners improved to a great extent after the course but there is no
100% correct answers in all questions.
The researcher suggests introduction of a separate course for
teaching negation and interrogation of English, using more learner-
centered techniques. Recommendations and suggestions for further
studies have been made.
