Abstract University: Neelain University — Post -Graduate Title: The Role of information Technology in Collection Building and Development in university library: Comparative Study between Library of Neleein University and Library of Sudan for Science and Technology University. _ l > Prepared by: Ali Mohammed Nor AlDaeim Gali Supervisor: Dr. Abbas AlShazliAwadE1Karim Scientific Degree: Master Year: \'~ ~/\ The main objective of this study is to investigate the role of Information Technology in collection building and development in University libraries, to know to what extent collection development support scientific research. Also it explores the different types of Information technology that used in university library and discusses the main concept of building and development of collection and its different activities. The study used different Research method, historical methodology to explore theoretical study for the application of information technology in university library, descriptive methodology to view and describe data, induction of results and comparative methodology used to compare the main library at Neelain University and Sudan university Science and Technology Library and the advantage of applying technologies in building collection. Also the study applies statistical methodology questionnaire and interview as amethod of data collection. I The research have general introduction and three chapters. The first chapter defines information, information technology and its‘ field of application in university library. The second chapter includes the general concepts of collection building and development in _ university library and the implementation of information technology in university library. The third chapter explains the role of information technology in collection building and development in the main library at Neelain University and Sudan University Science and Technology Library. _ " The main findings and results of the study are: Lack of planning and future study for executing information technology in collection building and “development in the case study libraries. The main problem that faced the studied libraries is the shortage of budget and lack of infrastructure in Information Technology. The two libraries allow the researchers to use and get benefit from the Internet to develop their studies. Finally the research has strong recommendations some of them are: Providing and support university library financially and specify a budget for it. ‘ Putting a plan and strategic programme for applying information technology in the two libraries. I Building and developing electronic collection in the Only libraries by supporting electronic library for subscribing in online databases. Exchange of ideas and experiences in standardization of choosing integrated systems and software that used in university library.
