Abstract
Abstract
This study was designed to evaluate and correct sight problems on a small sample of
El-Gedaref town (Abayo area) school pupils. It is a cross several study.
The study included 310 pupils, 160 females and 150 males from the 3rd and 4th classes
of randomly selected primary schools. Children in the period 15/3/2008 to 15/4/2008.
All subjects were subjected to full routine eye examination, the data collected was
statistically analyzed to get the following results:
7.1% of the subjects were complaining from blurred vision, 9% of the sample their
vision range between (0.60 to 0.40) with mean (0.90 + 0.0131) for the right eyes of
the whole sample however, 9.4% of the subjects their vision range between (0.60 to
0.40) with mean (0.90 + 0.0132) for the left eyes of the whole sample selected.
As for refractive errors, 11.0% were found to have myopia, hypermetropia 6.4%,
myopic astigmatism 4.2%, Hypermetropic astigmatism 1.6% and 79% of them their
vision improved to reach the standard acuity 1.00.
Colour vision defect among the study group was found to affect 3.9%. However, the
stereoscopic vision defect was found to affect 3.9% too.
Cover test result 23.5% were exophoric, 2.8% esophoric, 0.3% exotropic and 1.6%
esotropic.
This study revealed the absence of the school health programs and lack of awareness
about the importance of sight testing among the parents.
