The Protagonist's voice of emancipation process in Alice Walker's The Color Purple.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Alice Walker's epistolary novel thecolor purpletells the story of Celie, a black young girl who suffers a lot throughout her life. It represents female sufferings and the way they defeat their predicaments. This study examinesthe protagonist's voice of emancipationprocess in this epistolary novel .The researcher uses the analytical descriptive approach as a tool to investigate the problem. The novel has been thoroughly analyzed in terms of characters,themes and motifs. The study concludes that Celie has been ill treated by her stepfather and her husband as well throughout the novel. Celie struggles to free herself from the domestic violence, patriarchy and sexual harassment. The protagonist,Celiemanages to change her attitude from beingsexually abused, oppressed woman and victim into a strong and independent one physically and economically. Moreover, the study finds that, women solidarity combined with writing lettersare the two key elementsbehind Celie's voice of emancipation processin the epistolary novel The Color Purple (1982) By the Afro-American writer, Alice Walker. مستخلص الدراسة تروي رواية الكاتبة الأفرو-أمريكية اليس ووكر "اللون الأرجواني" قصة الفتاة السوداء سلي التي عانت كثيرا في حياتها. كما تستعرض الرواية معاناة النساء و طرق التغلب عليها. تهدف هذه الدراسة الى تحليل مسارصوت التحرر الذي اتبعته بطلة الرواية الرسائلية. استخدم الباحث المنهج الوصفيالتحليلي كأداة لبحث المشكلة وقد تم تحليل الرواية كليا من حيث الشخصيات والأفكار والموضوعات. توصلت الدراسة الى أن سلي عانت من سوء المعاملة من قبل زوج أمها وزوجها كذلك. كافحت البطلة سلي من أجل أن تحرر نفسها من العنف الأسري و النظام الأبوي و التحرشالجنسي. إستطاعت البطلة سلي من تغيير وضعيتها المزرية من إمراة مضطهدة و ضحية معتدى عليها جسديا و جنسيا الى إمراة قوية و مستقلة جسديا و ماديا. توصلت الدراسة أيضا الى أن كتابة الرسائل الي جانب تضامنالنساء كانتا لهما القدح المعلى في تحقيق مسارصوت التحرر للبطلة سلي في هذه الرواية الرسائلية اللون الأرجواني (1982) للكاتبة الأفرو-أمريكية اليس ووكر.
