Abstract
The aim of this study is to identify the elfect of utilizing school theatre in
learning enhancement of students in primary schools (6‘h class). In
addition, studying the condition of primary school theatres in the
Kingdom of Bahrain and their utilization to enrich teaching of history
subject.
This research is divided into two parts:
Part one, Practical Study:
The aim of the practical study is to answer the following questions:
1) Is there any difierence with statistical evidence between the
students leaming history subject in primary schools (6“‘ class)
by the suggested method and the traditional way that could be
related to the way of teaching?
2) Is there any difference with statistical evidence between the
students leaming history subject in primary schools (6“‘ class)
by the suggested method and the traditional way that could be
related to gender’?
3) Is there any difference with statistical evidence between the
students leaming history subject in primary schools (6'h class)
by the suggested method and the traditional way that could be
related to the way of teaching and gender at the same time?
Study environment of this research consists of: All students
(male & female) in the govemment primary schools (6'h class) of
northem govemorate in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
Study includes: 200 students divided into two groups.
The students in the first group were taught according to the suggested
method using the theatre way of teaching while the second group taught
according to the traditional way of teaching.
All students in both groups were examined and the results were as
follows:
a) There was a noticeable difierence with statistical evidence in the
understanding of the first group were the theatre method was
applied. The first group understands the subject better than the
second group.
b) There was no di1Terence in the understanding of both groups with
regard to the students‘ gender.
c) N0 ditference was observed with regard to the interaction of both
student gender and the way of teaching.
Part two, Theoretical Study;
The researcher used (questionnaire) that is divided into six parts to collect
the opinions of teachers (males & females) regarding the situation of
theatre and its utilization in teaching, especially in history subject.
The questionnaire covered (30%) of the education community which
consists of history subject teachers working in primary schools in
northem govemorate of the Kingdom of Bahrain.
Questionnaire Results:
a) Most schools in the Kingdom of Bahrain do not have the basic
requirements of a good school theatre.
b) The questionnaire revealed the effectiveness of theatre in
achieving the required educational targets.
c) The contribution of schools administrations to utilize the theater
does not exceed (37.9l%) in Bahrain primary schools.
d) The theatre is utilized for the students with only (9.8%) to show
the subjects related to history.
e) Teachers tried theatre action are about (54.17%) and (96.4l%)
believed that using theatre to teach history subject is effective.
t) The most difliculties that limit utilizing the school theater are:
limited time for both teachers and students in addition to the lack
of the theatre itself in schools and the specialist.
Research recommendations & suggestions:
1) Giving attention to the school theatre and putting a studied plan to
enhance the teaching using this process.
2) Allocating theatre technicians and specialist in schools, dedicating a
weekly class to theatre and arranging worluhops to talents and teachers.
3) Keeping the school theater as one main element in school map.
4) Create a main centre in the GCC countries to apply and develop theatres
in schools and utilize them in teaching.
