Nurse's Knowledge and Attitude Regarding Uses of the Gloves at Omdurman Military Hospital (January - September 2021)

Abstract

Abstract Background:

Gloves are effective in preventing contamination of health-care workers’ hands and helping reduce transmission of pathogens. Inappropriate and unnecessary use of gloves results in a waste of resource and may increase the risk of germ transmission.

Aim: To assess nurse's knowledge and attitude regarding the uses of gloves. Research Methodology: It was descriptive Cross Sectional hospital based study conducted at Omdurman Military Hospital included (150) nurses working in general ward, data were collected by using modified questionnaire by WHO guideline to assess knowledge and attitude ,analyzed by statistical package for social sciences (SPSS) in form of frequency and percentage, presented in form of tables and figure for more group comparison we use chi square test, p value significant at < 0.05 . Results: Results showed that the nurses have good knowledge regarding the uses of examination gloves, fair knowledge regarding uses of sterile gloves, and poor attitude regarding uses of the gloves. Conclusion: The nurses have good knowledge and poor attitude regarding uses of the gloves, also there was highly significant association between years of experience and knowledge (p value=0.00). Recommendations: The study recommended that training of nurses in and out hospital and provides posters with important information about uses of the gloves by Omdurman Military Hospital authority, besides continuous supervision to assess availability of gloves in all departments including the wards. مستخلص الدراسة القفازات الطبية فعالة في منع تلوث ايادي العاملين في الرعاية الصحية والمساعدة في الحد من انتقال مسببات الأمراض. يؤدي الاستخدام غير الضروري وغير المناسب للقفازات إلى إهدار الموارد وقد يزيد من خطر انتقال الجراثيم. الاهداف: تهدف هذه الدراسة إلى التحقيق في معرفة السلوك و المعلومات المعينه عن كيفية استخدام القفازات الطبية من قبل التمريض. تم جمع البيانات باستخدام استبيان صمم لهذه الدراسة. حجم العينة (150) ممرض/ه من العاملين بالعنابر. تم تحليل البيانات باستخدام الحزمة الإحصائية للعلوم الاجتماعية . (SPSS) و نتائج هذه الدراسة أظهرت ان غالبية المشاركين لديهم معرفة جيدة عن كيفية استخدام القفازات الطبية غير المعقمة الا ان لديهم ضعف في استخدام القفازات الطبية المعقمة .بالاضافة الى ان لديهم سلوك سيئ فيما يتعلق باستخاماتها . وتلخص ان المعارف الضعيفة لدي الممرضين المسجلين قد تعيق اداءهم بالاضافة الى ان هنالك علاقة بين نسبة المعرفة مقارنة بعدد سنوات الخبرة. لذلك يجب على ادارة مستشفى السلاح الطبي القيام بدورات تدريبية للممرضين عن كيفية استخدام القفازات الطبية الى جانب الاشراف المستمر على توفير كمية كافية منها في جميع الاقسام.
