Abstract
Abstract
This research has investigated the status of using the internet by
Sudanese university students: the case study of Neelain university students.
The aim was to evaluate the efficiency of the use of the internet to students in
terms of the information provided by the Internet. The researcher used the
analytical and descriptive method: case study, the historical method as well as
the statistical program. I
The theoretical framework tackled the research problem, the
significance, and the objectives that were aimed to be achieved, in
addition to a number of questions that relate to the research topic.
The theoretical framework also explained the methodology adopted by
the researcher, the limitations of time and place, the instruments
that were used, and the key terms which were repeatedly used in the
research. Beside these the framework also surveyed the previous
studies relevant to the research topic and concluded with the
structure of the research.
Within the body of the research the researcher previewed generally
the information networks as a premise to the internet. In this
section the researcher investigated the concept of information, its
importance and characteristics, then the information networks with
their significance, forms and types. Having reviewed the above
aspects, the researcher then specifically investigated the internet as
the focus of the study in terms of the concept, historical development
and the most important services that are availed in it. In addition to
this, the researcher probed into how the internet is accessed and the
ways of benefiting from its sen/ices.
On the empirical and practical part, the researcher has chosen the
students of Neelain University as representatives and a case study of
the status of using the internet by the Sudanese university students.
The investigation was carried out to measure the efficacy of usage of
the web and how the students benefit from its services. As a result
the researcher has reached a number of conclusions from which the most
important were the students‘ use of the internet was in weak
percentages and there were clear in-efficancy of usage therefore it
rendered little benefits from the huge services provided by it. The
other results show an evident contrast between the level of Neelain
university students’ use of the internet and the extent of benefits
gained as a result. This is also more obvious among the students of
sciences and the empirical colleges whose scale of benefits and
efficancy is higher compared with the students from the Arts and
Theoretical colleges. The important recommendations that the
researcher suggests to raise the standards and efficacy of using the
internet with benefits are: the necessity of linking the components of
the syllabi and the courses in Neelain University with the internet
and the inclusion of the internet as a subject in the syllabus
requirements. Added to the above, the researcher also recommends that
university teachers should encourage and guide students to use the
internet and the establishment of many internet units within the
university as well as boosting the potentials of the existing
departments. It is also recommended by the researcher to train
students theoretically and practically in using the internet to
guarantee the efficency and efficiency of benefits from accessing the
internet.
