Abstract

Abstract Al-Neelian University - Postgraduate College Faculty or Arts - Department of Libraries & Information Title of the research: The Intellectual Production in the Sudanese Periodical (1987-1992) Collective and Analytic Index : Biblio-metric Study. Prepared by: Wala Fikry Mohamed El-Sayeed. Supervisor: Prof. Gassim Osman Nur. Degree: M.A. Year 2008. _ The present research aims at the determination and analysis of the Intellectual Production in the Sudanese Periodical during the period ( 1987-1992), in order to know the specifications and features of this production; as well as the study quantitative, qualitative, category, subjective and temporal distributions, and other bibliometric variables. The researcher used some methods such as the historical (documentary) and the bibliometric methods. The Study is Composed of Four Chapters: The first chapter tackles the general framework of the study. The second chapter treats the concept of periodical and their historical development, as well as their categories, the importance of the periodical magazines in the scientific research, their problems, the Sudanese periodical, the listing and the abstracts of the periodical magazines, the importance of the bibliometric measurements, their historical development, the fields of their usages and the laws regulating them. The third chapter deals with the applied aspect of the study. It contains the list of the Sudanese magazines, that of the authors and final one for the titles. The fourth chapter tackles the statistical analysis of the essays of the periodical magazines, which are the subject of the study, the determination of the quantitative, the qualitative, subjective distributions. The same chapter presents also with the results. _?

The Most Important Results Obtained by the Research: The number of the essays published in the magazines, subject of the study, during the period (1987-1992), reached seven hundred and sixty four essays. The subjective sector 'Social Sciences' comes at the top of the list of production, with (49%), followed by the subjective sector 'A1ts', With (11.5%), while the subjective sector 'pure Sciences' comes at the bottom of the list, with (0.9%). There is lack of tools of bibliographic control in the Sudanese periodical magazines. According to these results, the researcher forwarded a number of recommendations, the most important of Which are: The study of the specifications and features of intellectual production, published in the Sudanese periodical magazines, in the other future periods. Take in consideration the services of bibliographic control in the Sudanese periodical magazines. The necessity to have concern about the production of the evidences of the national coverage of the periodical magazines.
