Abstract

abstract: The aim of the study is to benefit from the information technologies available at the universities, university colleges and high educational institutions in order to establish a network which would link all university-libraries in the State of Khartoum. This objective could be attained through the study of the current position of the university-libraries and the level of the existing cooperation among them, in addition to the available technologies. Special focus, in this respect, would be on computer technologies. The proposed network system in this research aims at establishing a Local Area Network (LANs) for university-libraries that would, in turns, connect all of them via a Metropolitan Area Network (MAN) system. The vital methodology through which this study was carried out heavily relied upon the results of a survey regarding the available information technologies in the (23) libraries of the higher educational institutions in the State of Khartoum. _ For this purpose a questionnaire had been designed to collect data. The number of respondents amounted to (14) which represents (60.9%) of the population of the study. The feedback of the questionnaire amounted to (41.4%) SPSS had been used to analyze the study data. The study suggested the following necessary recommendations: (1) The Ministry of Higher Education & Scientific Research should provide the necessary support for university-libraries to enable them to introduce the needed new technologies. (2) The importance of cooperation and coordination among them. (3) The importance of governmental body to adopt the a fore mentioned project. '
