Abstract

ABSTRACT The aim of this study is to evaluate the contents of the examination of primary mathematics (paper one) in the Sudan School certificate of the year 2001 and 2002, in order to know the bases on which the exams are built and how far exams are complied I with criteria of good exam. It also aims at identifying the advantages and disadvantages o‘ setting the exarn's questions, building , application and marking the exam and how far it achieve the objectives of the curriculum . The study sample comprises teachers and supervisors of mathematics in the secondary schools in Khartoum State . The author used the descriptive and analytical methodology and designed a questionnaire using Lekart standard in answering the questions of the questionnaire and Chi- Square to analyze the results. ‘ The most important results of the study are as follows: 1/ The exam questions have greatly consider most of the general conditions for setting the exam as seen fiom the following : - a/ Cover various parts of the subject. I b/ Consider individual differences among students. c/ Gradating from easy to diflicult and simple to complicated. d/ Devoid of spelling, grammatical and typing errors. gl Instructions are clear and questions are diverse. _ h/ Consider credibility and stability . 2/ Questions do not verify the specification table . 3/ Questions do not caters for the relatives weight for the number of the questions . Based on the finding of the study , the author recommend the following: 1/ Provision of text books of educational assessment and evaluation for teachers , or organization of training courses for teachers on educational assessment and evaluation and exam setting and marking . 2/ Development of the subject of the educational assessment and evaluation in faculties of educations . D 3/ Revision of the exams and consideration of the conditions of the good exam , specifically those related to relative weights of topics and tables of descriptions. 4/ Interpretation of results of students in Sudan School Certificate and implementatio of the results of the interpretation in developing the route of the educational process.
