Abstract
Abstract
This is case control study that was carried out from lst September 2018 to lst febrile
Z01‘). at health insurance central clinic To assess the relationship between glyeemic
control (as refiected by glycated hemoglobin: llbAlc) and serum lipid profile in type 2
diabetic patients attending a health insurance central clinic in alnohod city . and included
hundred type 2 diabetic patients (30% males and 70% females ). in addition to fifly
healthy Sudanese volunteers whom were included as a control group.
The mean iSD oliage was 50.8 1 11.5 years for males and 54.3 i 10.1 years for females.
During the regular visits to the clinic Tor clinical lollow up. venous blood samples \\"et'e
collected fi'om all subjects (patient and control) after over night fasting. Blood specimens
were collected into EDT/\ tubes for HbAlc and in Serum Separator Tube for Tasting
blood glucose and lipid profile measurement. The data were evaluated by SPSS
statistical package version 16. The results were analyzed using independent samples t-test
(2-tailed). Pearson's correlation. There were no significant differences in the mean values
ofthe different parameters between males and females. Meanwhile. hypercholesterolemia
and decreased HDL-C was found in 75 (75%)
patients. hypertriglyceriemia and increased LDL-C was found in 65 (65%) patients. 25
(25%) patients had no abnonnal lipid profile parameters. 65 (65%) patients had two
abnormal lipid profile parameters and 75 (75%) patients had more than three abnormal
lipid profile parameters. More than 70% of diabetic patient not used diabetic treatment as
regular dosage. A highly significant correlation between HbAlc and FBG was noted in
this study
According to Diabetes Control and Complications Trial/National Glyeohemoglobin
Standardization Program (DCCT/NGSP). Dyslipidemia was improved in many diabetics
with better glyeemic control as rellected by HbAlc. llenee. achieving the target ol‘
Hb/\lc will contribute in improving the lipid state. and hence may lessen the diabetic
complications in type 2 diabetic patients. The result we conclude that the significant
correlation exists between HbAlc and lipid profile. The better the glycemic control as
rellected by HbAlc the better would be the lipidemic state.
