Abstract
ABSTRACT
This study investigates the relationship between the psychological and behavioural
disorders of the 6-12-year-old children in Khartoum State, as well as some other variables. It also
investigates the relationship between the behavioural and psychological disorders of this
category and each of the variables of the mother's educational level and the maladjusted parental
treatment styles in addition to the differences in sex and birth order and the marital status of the
parents.
The researcher used the descriptive correlation approach. The sample was chosen through
a simple random sample of 363 children, 196 of whom are males and 167 are females. The
researcher used the scale of behavioural and psychological disorders as viewed by the mothers
and the children, and the scale of maladjusted parental styles designed by the researcher. For the
statistical processing of data, the following equations were used:
• T. Test for the mean population; T. Test for two independent groups;
Pearson's correlation co-efficient; Pearson- Brown correlation coefficient,
and Tukey equation.
The study came out with the following findings:
1. There is a everage spread of behavioural and psychological disorders
among the 6-12-year- old children category in the opinion of mothers
and children in Khartoum State.
2. There are differences in the degrees of behavioural and psychological
disorders among the 6-12-years-old category in mothers' opinion in
6
Khartoum State. This is ascribed to the variable of the child's birth
order within the family in favour of the single child.
3. There are differences in the degrees of behavioural and psychological
disorders among the 6-12-year-old category in children's opinion in
Khartoum State. This is attributed to the child's birth order in the
family in favour of the single child.
4. There are differences in the degrees of behavioural and psychological
disorders among the 6-12-year-old category in the mother's opinion in
Khartoum State. This is returned to the variable of the child's sex. The
differences are in favour of males.
5. There are differences in the degrees of behavioural and psychological
disorders among the 6-12-year-old category in the children's opinion in
Khartoum State. This is due to the child's sex variable. The differences
are in favour of males.
6. There are differences in the degrees of behavioural and psychological
disorders among the 6-12-year-old category in mother's opinion in
Khartoum State. This is because of the variable of the social status of
the family (separated – not separated). The differences in means are
bigger for separated families.
7. There are differences in the degrees of behavioural and psychological
disorders among the 6-12-year-old category in children's opinion in
Khartoum State. This is returned to the social status of the family
(separated – not separated). The differences in means are bigger for
separated families.
8. There is a negative correlation between the degrees of behavioural
and psychological disorders among the 6-12-year-old in the mothers'
and children's opinion in Khartoum State and the mother's education
variable.
9. There is a positive correlation between the degrees of behavioural and
psychological disorders among the 6-12-year-old category in the
7
mothers' and children's opinion in Khartoum State and the variable of
maladjusted parental treatment.
