Abstract

Abstract Research Title: The role of electronic portals for libraries in the promotion and development of information services (Applied to the Sudanese Virtual Library) University: Alneelain Faculty: Art Student: Samar Babeker Ali Mohammed Supervision: Dr. Mozamil Sharif Hamid Degree: Athesis Submitted In Portial Ful Fillment For Requirements Of The Degree Of Master In Library And Information The purpose of this research is to study the role of electronic library portals in the development and promotion of information services by identifying the structural and organizational elements of portals, and study the Sudanese portal, their role in providing services and the interaction of university libraries with them. The Virtual Library offers an electronic gateway to Sudanese libraries and shows the main problems they face. In order to achieve the objectives of the study, the researcher used the analytical descriptive method. The case study and the statistical method were used in analyzing the results of the study. The data were collected by reviewing the published literature in Arabic and English, and the personal interview, observation and questionnaire. The sample of the study was chosen in a deliberate manner and consisted of four university libraries in the state of Khartoum. The study concluded that the Sudanese Virtual Library Project as a portal for Sudanese libraries is still in its infancy. The project has not yet been completed the project has not benefited from the available models at the international level.
