Abstract

Abstract ' ~ ‘ Studies of towns are considered to be important because they show the features ol‘ the civilization and the way inzwhich it has been developed and grown. Although the town is a precursor to the growth civilization it has faced problems in both the developed and developing countries. So, towns in the developing world, suffer from a variety of problems, including migration from the surrounding countryside resulting from liat-tors pushing theses people from the land such as desertification and also factors attracting them to the towns such as development and a preferable standard of living. This results in a decline in the available services in the town and the appearance ofsuburbs. The effects ofthese proltleins nre related to the ill-uses ol'tl|e land in the town, besides the proportion of unemployed and those patronized by their relatives and other charity institutions. The methodology of the researcher in collecting the information from libraries, historical sources, book and starting surveys concentrates on questionnaires, interviews and town surveys. = The aim ofthis study is a survey of Shendi from the point of view of the real use, exploitation of the \land,- town planning the growth and structure ol‘the town, its signiticance to the region, the rate of Population increases. delining and analyzing the roles of the inhabitants, and the decline in public services planning as a proposal for an improved model ofthe town. _. Findings and suggesti0ns:'- 5 * The importance ol’ the towns site and situation and the benefits ofit’s rural resources to the establishment 0fit’s construction. * The increase in the number of it’s population resulting from immigration , natural increase and fertility in the population rate. * Increase in the rates of unemployment and those patronized by their relatives and other charity institutions. The research ends with the suggestion foramodel town plan for Shendi — considering new for solving some problems such as the population increase and avoiding the decline in services.
