Abstract

ABSTRACT This research was aimed to throw light on the relation between parental treatment (as perceived by children) and the acquisition of their personality characteristics as a concept of their self and of religiousness. The sample population of this study was 450 male -and female students from the 7“ and 8"‘ grade of private and public schools in Khartoum province. The choice of participants was random. Data collection was performed using standard Data collection sheets (Anwar Riad and A/Aziz El Mighaisid, 1991; A/Allah Al Kailany, 1981; Al Muhaiad AL Mutawakil, 1998), including basic participant data as well as parental treatment behavior as perceived by the questioned children. Analysis was done using SPSS, as well as persons correlation coefficient test (T), for two independent samples and the individual variation test The researcher concluded his study with the following results: '3' There is a statistical signification positive correlation between the styles of parental treatment of the father and the concept of self-confidence of the children, by fatherly encouragement, forgiveness, protection and acceptance. '2' This correlation was found negative by fatherly behavior in the form of imposing opinions on the children, their ignorance and rejection. ' '2' Neither significant positive nor negative statistical correlation was detected for equal and preferential fatherly behavior towards the children. '1' There is a statistically signification positive correlation between the styles of the mother and the concept of self-confidence of the children to motherly encouragement, forgiveness, protection and acceptance. '1' This correlation was found negative to the mother's behavior inlthe form of imposing opinions on the children, their ignorance and rejection. ‘1* Neither significant positive nor negative statistical correlation was detected for equal and preferential motherly behavior towards the children. ‘Z’ There is a statistically signification positive correlation between the standard of the children's religiousness and fatherly encouragement, forgiveness, protection and acceptance. '2' There is a statistically signification positive correlation between the standard of the children's religiousness and motherly encouragement, forgiveness, protection and acceptance. '1' There is a statistically signification correlation between the father's style of behavior towards the child in accordance to it's sex, in the f0l’IT1S of encouragement, forgiveness, oppression of opinion, excessive protection, differentiation and rejection. ' i '2' There is a statistically signification correlation between the mother's style of behavior towards the child in accordance to it's sex, in the forms of encouragement and excessive protection. '1', There is a statistically signification positive correlation between self confidence and religiousness. There is a statistically signification differences in the styles of parental treatment of the father with regard to his educational standard, in oppressing the children's opinion and differentiating between them. ~2~ There is a statistically signification differences in the styles of parental treatment of the mother with regard to her educational standard, in oppressing the children's opinion, differentiation and negligence. There is a statistically signification differences in self confidence of the children with regard to the father's educational standard. There are no statistically signification differences in self confidence of the children with regard to the mother's educational standard. There are no statistically signification differences in religiousness of the children with regard to the parent's educational standard.
