Abstract

A BST'R/\CT‘ The lslamic hanks are fairly new in Yemen. They were established in the second halfoflhe l‘)‘)tls decade. Despite this short period. they managed to achieve considerable successes. This study endeavours to embark on the reality of lslamic Banking in Yemen and the development projects they achieved. The study handled the concept of the lslamic Banks, their characteristics and the impact of globalization on sortie. Because of the importance of lslamic Banking, their reality and development, the study handled the faults which occurred and the attempt at correcting them. The emphasis was laid on the application of the financing mechanisms for the investment projects in the Yemeni banks and their adoption of the form of 'Mnrabaha' (Profi't-Sharing).in their various activities; together with their negative effect on the investment side. The field study looked into the ability of the lslamic Banks, to planning, training and qualifying their cadres. ln addition, this was accompanied by their coping with the modern developments of lslamic Banks. The hypotheses were set; and the ability of the bank to achieve them, was discussed. The research, then, concluded with some findings. the most important of which are as f0llows:- l- The lslamic Banks in Yemen depend greatly on the 'Murabaha" (Profit- Sharing). fonn, in most oftheir investtnent activities. 2- The lslamic Banks endeavour to diversify the linancing mechanisms, for the investment projects, through the gradual steps in the application of the other mechanisms. 3- The lslamic Banks achieved some successes, to some extent, in the various economic and social sides. » 4~ The lslamic Banks in Yemen stiffer from the surplus ofliqnidily; because of the non-provision of the suitable investment climate. Thus, they sought investment opportunities abroad.‘ This affects the economic activity, negatively. in the country.
