Nurses Knowledge And Practices Regarding Prevention of Hemodialysis Access Infection At Khartoum North TeachingHospital 2015.

Abstract

Abstract:Background: In hemodialysis (HD) centers, nurses play a pivotal role in HD access care. Unfortunately, guideline recommendations for routine preventive care are not always followed. This study was designed to assess nurses’ knowledge and practice of hemodialysis access care in Khartoum north, Sudan. Methods: This is an observational, descriptive hospital base study. The setting was in the Khartoum North Hemodialysis Centers. The study included 20 hemodialysis nurses. Nurses’ knowledge was assessing using a self-administer questionnaire and checklist design to collect data. Data analysis by Computer coding and (SPSS) version 23.data analyzed by using tables and figures. Results: Females constituted 10%and males also constituted 10% of study participants are equal. Most of them 11% were diploma graduates.12% of nurses had 3-5 years experiences in HD (hemodialysis).all participants not done hand hygiene before touch the patient and 40% perform hand hygiene after touch the patient. 65% had knowledge about using of aseptic technique in connection and disconnection the patient from the machine.55% of nurses apply skin antiseptic to access .all participant never scrub catheter hub with antiseptic.70% wear gloves and 70% not apply dressing aseptically of study participants. Conclusions: HD nurses adherence to the recommended infection control measures. HD center required to provide adequate hand washing facilities.
