Abstract

Abstract The study aims to lay out comprehensive plans for the dissemination of Arabic language world wide. There plans envisage to find escape for Arabic from the impasse in which it is found. It becomes a necessity fio Arabic to maintain its position under globalization a.nd the civilizations conflict. The research examines thoroughly the newly emerging concept of globalization and the way it is dealt with from an Islamic point of view. It touches upon the conflict between civilizations, namely between the western and the Arab Islamic civilization. The study explores the characteristics of the Arab Islamic civilization. The study defines it as an international interactive civilization and a civilization which has the adeptness to dialogue with the other civilization at any time and everywhere. The study depicts the current situation of the Arabic language and illustrates its characteristics. First, it is the only language that has been used for communication for more than sixteen centuries. Second, it is the national language for all Arab people. Third, it is the means by which they convey their civilization. Fourth, it is the language chosen by Allah for the Quranic revelation. Fifth, it is a world wide recognized language that is ofiicially used in an international organization among which is the United Nations. The researcher points to the interaction between the Arabic language and the other intemational languages. The objective of the study is to set out comprehensive short, medium and long plans for the dissemination of Arabic. The study defines the methods to achieve this objective. The study concludes that Arabic still occupies a prestigious status despite the severe attacks against Arab people. Finally, the researcher stresses the importance of coordination between the Arab Islamic organizations such as the Arab Language Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization, the organization of the Islamic conference. These organizations must make efforts to disseminate Arabic. The researcher also stresses the role of teachers training institutes in disseminating Arabic and the use of the international net work (web site) in teaching the language. The researcher recommends conducting studies relative to the subject such as using the internet in teaching Arabic.
