Antenatal care refers to the interventions to control maternal and infant
mortality. It is a
planned program of medical management of pregnant women directed towards; making
pregnancy and labor a safe and satisfying experience
Aims
The aim of the study was first to assess the knowledge and attitude of the pregnant
women about im
portance of antenatal care, second to identify schedules and distance of
antenatal care services, third to determine the attitude of antenatal care provider during
provision services.
Methods
A cross
-
sectional hospital
-
based study was conducted among preg
nant women attending
antenatal care outpatient clinic in Omdurman maternity h
ospital in Sudan, A total of 183
pregnant women were enrolled in the study. A self administered questionnaire were used
to obtain information from
pregnant women,
statistical packa
ge for social sceinse
SPSS
(version 16 )
software was used to make descriptive statistics and cross tabulations with
chi
-
square test were performed to explore associations between variables.
Results
(21.3
%) of women were primigravida, almost
pregnant women
(86.3
%) use ANC
services, the major sources of information on knowledg
e of ANC cited were hospital
(68.9
%), the majority of the women access the ANC services dur
ing 1st Trimester
(97.9%), (61.7
%) of the pregnant women agreed that healthy pr
egnancy and safe delivery
are benefits of ANC services.
Conclusion
Generally access, use of ANC services
and payment for to ANC services
these three
factors found
to be great
influence
on
the utilization of ANC services among pregnant
women in Omdurman mat
ernity hospital
