Abstract

Abstract ' Research Title :Public Libraries In Sudan ( A plan for public libraries services (Acase study ) South Kordofan state . Name of the researcher :Obiedallah Mohammed Ibrahiem Supervisor : Abas Alshazali Awadalkareem Place : Republic of Sudan — University of Alnelein — Graduate College — Faculty of Arts - Section of Libraries and Information . Date : 2008 . The study starts with an introduction and four chapters . The first chapter is about the general framworl; of the research It decides the problem of the research which is summarized in the difficulties and problems that impede the constructive plans and suggestions for providing public library services in the Sudan in general and the study area in particular .This is besides the decision of the methodology adopted for the study . The study is supposed to achive the following objectives : 1 — What is meant by public libraries , their aims , their functions , their definitions, the nature of services they provide and what is supposed to be provided by them . 2 — The discussion of the problems that stand against the development and growth of public libraries in the Sudan . 3 — The study and invistigation of the previous attempts of library planning in the Sudan . 4 — Providing a plan to be useful to provide a base for offering library services in the Sudan and apply it in South Kordofan state .Chapter two concerns the general concepts of public libraries , the methods of adminstration and services of the public libraries . The third chapter is about the previous experiences in the field of public libraries . The fourth chapter provides a detailed study about the study area . geographic site population and their distribution , and their educational and economical activites .The fifth chapter is about the suggested plan of the public libraries in South Kordofan state . The study reaches the following findings -: l — There are no laws and legislations to make the state and the regional government to have a commitment towards catering for the public libraries .This is the main cause of public libraries inefficiency in the Sudan . . 2 — Sudan experiment in the field of public libraries is not developing and does not cope with the innovations . The main recommendations are : 1 — The acceleration of effective laws and legislations that organize public libraries activites . 2 — The state should directly cater for the libraries just like the other services . 3 — South Kordofan state is required to adopt this plan by establishing a net for the public libraries liable to be connected with the other nets in the country .
