THE HARMONY BETWEEN FORM AND CONTENT IN THOMAS HARDY’S “THE MAYOR OF CASTERBRIDGE”

Abstract

The present dissertation is about the harmony between the form and content in Thomas Hardy's novel “The Mayor of Casterbridge ". It aims at shedding light on whether the form and content (What & How) are identical. This study is divided into five chapters, the first two chapters deal with the introduction and theoretical part. Chapter Three is the methodology of the researcher, the last two chapters deal with interpretation, analysis, summary of findings and conclusion. The researcher follows the formalist literary theory to go deep in the form of Thomas Hardy's novel " The Mayor of Casterbridge " in order to figure out the harmony between the form and content in the novel. Throughout analyzing the novel , the researcher proves that there is great harmony between the form and content in " The Mayor of Casterbridge ”;besides, Thomas Hardy was able to express his ideas, and express what he could see, also the researcher finds out that, it is not logic to ignore form and content in one text.

تناولت الدراسة الإتساق بين الشكل والمحتوى في رواية "عمدة كاستربردج" للكاتب الانجليزي توماس هاردي ". تهدف الدراسة إلى إلقاء الضوء على مدى تطابق الشكل والمحتوى. تحتوي الدراسة على خمسة فصول يهتم الفصلان الاول الثاني باجانب النظري. الفصل الثالث يحتوي على منهجية البحث. أما الفصلان الاخيرانفيهتمان بالتفسير, التحليل, ملخص النتائج و الخاتمة . استخدم الباحث نظرية الشكل الادبية للتوغل عميقا في رواية "عمدة كاستربردج" الامر الذي يمكن من التوصل الى الانسجام بين الشكل و المحتوى في الرواية. أثبت الباحث من خلال تحليل الرواية ان هنالك اتساقاً عظيم في رواية "عمدة كاستربيردج" وكذلك اثبت أن الكاتب " توماس هاردي" كان قادراً على التعبير عن افكاره وعن ما يراه. أيضا توصل الباحث الى أنه ليس من المنطق تجاهل الانسجام بين الشكل والمحتوى في النصوص الادبية.
